Excel function – First letter uppercase, the rest lower


You learn something new every day! After taking so long and trying all sorts of crazy function combinations… it was a simple function that was already built into Excel, made for this very purpose….!

So, if you need to make the first letter uppercase and the rest all lowercase, just use the PROPER function!

Example, as seen in the pic below:

In cell A1 we have HAINS. In cell B2, the function PROPER returns the value from A1 with the first letter in uppercase and the rest of the text string in lower case.

=PROPER(cellReference)
