Excel Function of the Month – COUNT & COUNTA

The Excel Functions of the month are

COUNT and COUNTA

Description

COUNT : Counts the number of cells in a range that contain numbers.

COUNTA : Counts the number of cells in a range that are not empty.

Usage

The COUNT function counts how many cells in a range contain only numbers. It will ignore any cells that contain text or cells that are blank.

The COUNTA (think of ‘A’ meaning ‘All’) will count all cells that contain any kind of data (text and/or numbers) but will ignore blank cells.
