About Blogging : For Teachers – Part 7 of 10

Part 7 : Google AdSense & Generating Revenue

Creating revenue from a blog is a skill. The bad news is that you are not able to use Google Adsense on a free WordPress blog (or any other ‘free’ provider). However, if you have your own blog hosted on a server with space you pay for, then you’re in luck as you can implement Google Ads on your site. It’s really quite easy and requires very little effort to implement.

You may make some Rands…but you’re not going to get rich any time soon!

Ads on your blog

What is Google AdSense?
Google AdSense is a program run by Google that allows publishers in the Google Network of content sites to serve automatic text, image, video, or interactive media advertisements, that are targeted to site content and audience. These advertisements are administered, sorted, and maintained by Google. They can generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis.” – Wikipedia

“Google AdSense is a free, simple way for website publishers of all sizes to earn money by displaying targeted Google ads on their websites.” – Google AdSense

What do you need?
In order to be able to use Google AdSense on your blog (or web site), you will have to look at these requirements:

  • A self-hosted WordPress site (i.e. with an ISP and web space)
  • A Google account
  • You must first have an existing site with quality content
  • Apply for an AdSense account
  • Receive an AdSense ID from Google
  • Verify Bank details (if required by Google)
  • Create ad blocks and paste the generated code from Google on your site where you want the ads to display
