Here is an activity I designed for working with a few elements in Excel.
- Conditional formatting
- cell addresses
- drag and fill
- data validation
I made a block of 100 squares. All squares have conditional formatting applied so that when a certain number is typed in, the square (cell) changes colour. They can copy and paste the number or drag it across a range. If the number does not match a number in the legend/key, data validation kicks in.
Learners follow instructions given and see an image appear as they follow the instructions. In another worksheet, they are given the image and they have to complete the instructions instead! And, of course, they can create their own “drawings” as well and provide the instructions for others to try out.
