Have a student cast their screen (or device) to yours

Trying to find decent remote software to view your learners’ screens, or having them share their screen with the rest of the class, is like trying to get your learners to study for their Theory exam. Impossible.

However, I have made a discovery that I thought was really cool and thought I should share it with you. I was trying to find an application to allow me to share my Tablet screen to the projector. I know there are hardware devices that allow one to do this but I don’t have money to buy anything!

Windows 10 has a built-in app called Connect (Hit your Window key or click the Windows menu button and type Connect). Run the Connect app. Your computer is now a wireless receiver for any device that supports Chromecast, Miracast or Android Smartview.

On any other computer or device, run your screen mirroring software and connect to the computer you’ve just enabled with the Connect app. The device’s screen is now mirrored on your device!

Because my laptop is now a receiver and connected to the projector, any person can connect and cast their screen to the projector. No extra hardware or software necessary! YouTube videos play perfectly, screen quality is great and it’s so easy now to get a learner to share their screen on their computer/device with the whole class instantly!

Check out the video below to see how it works.

  1. This is excellent, thank you! I don’t have a wireless projector and struggle to keep control of some classes while sitting at the front with my computer. I use this now to cast my personal computer to the school computer connected to the projector and I can work form anywhere in the class…
